A webinar organised by Intervozes in collaboration with APC members and staff. The webinar will focus on Fake news and sessions dedicated to this topic during the IGF.

When: 27 February 2018, 2 pm UTC -> Click here to see what time it is for you.

What: Intervozes and APC will hold a webinar about the controversies around the increasingly debated “fake news”. Seizing the IGF 2017 discussions on this topic, the APC community and some external guests will have the opportunity to go deeper in this matter sharing opinions, ongoing initiatives and asking questions.

Why: Intervozes received the METF fund support to attend the IGF 2017. As a way of sharing part of the discussions at the event along with creating a rich space of debate among the APC community about this topic (that inspires several concerns and different kinds of interesting or worrisome remedies attempts), we are inviting you to participate in this discussion.

Who: Moderation – Veridiana (Intervozes). Initial interventions – Joana Varon (Coding Rights/Brazil), Grace Mutung'u (KICTANet/Kenya), Valentina Pellizzer (APC/Bosnia and Herzegovina). Other contributors – Gayatri Khandhada (APC/ India), Jonas Valente (Intervozes/Brazil), Marianne Diaz (Derechos Digitales/Latam), you.

How: The moderator will offer a quick overview of the IGF panels that addressed the topic of fake news, using these subsidies to continue the debate. Following the overview, we will have some brief initial provocations to warm up the discussion, which will be shortly after opened to all the webinar participants. Stay tuned to know more about our speakers! Coding Rights, Derechos Digitales and APC Women’s Rights Programme are already on the list.

How to join the webinar

APC has a long-term commitment to use and promote FLOSS applications and systems. However, for this webinar we had to drop our initial plan to use the open source Mumble online meeting system kindly offered by MayFirst / People Link who hosts it. Instead, this time we will be using online meeting system Zoom. For future webinars we are committed to get back to a FLOSS-based setup.

As is the case of most online systems, Zoom needs to download a small application to your computer in order for you to be able to connect. Please make sure to test this before the webinar starts.

To join from Linux, PC, Mac, iOS or Android, click on following link: https://zoom.us/j/882343593. (Choose "Connect to Zoom" and/or "Use microphone to connect" if you are asked)
