autonomous infrastructure

(Karla) The Internet is such a complex network that to understand its functioning and governance, a three-layer analogy is used: The internet is comprised by the socio-economic layer, the logic layer and the infrastructure layer. Autonomous infrastructure referes to this last layer and how there are resistance efforts to build alternative networks that reflect the valuesand principles of communities around the world. These infrastructures are not only a set of servers, routers, cables, protocols, antennas and devices of all kinds; they take care of the human and community dimension; that they value the care tasks necessary for its operation. An example of these are autonomous Internet and cell phone networks, community intranets and autonomous servers, which have been growing in recent years in different parts of the world.
