Dear Sir,

Re: Stop the Intimidation of BERSIH 2.0 Supporters

We are writing to you to express our outrage and our strongest condemnation over your government’s use of the police force for its ongoing crackdown in Malaysia on the right of Malaysian citizens to express their call for a free, fair and clean elections. Bersih 2.0 is a
citizen’s collective and movement to ensure a free, fair and clean elections. Your government must recognize such laudable initiatives by the Malaysian people as it strengthens democracy and the realisation of justice in the country. Very sadly, what we see today is aggressive
intimidation, harassment and violence against ordinary citizens and organizers of the BERSIH 2.0 programs.

We are appalled by your government and the police’s latest actions in raiding the EMPOWER office and harassing the staff. We view this as yet another attempt by your government to intimidate Malaysian citizens. We demand your government to stop the intimidation and harassment of supporters of BERSIH 2.0. As a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, these actions by the Malaysian government are deplorable and unfit of such an international office and position. We strongly urge your government to uphold freedom of expression of its Malaysian citizens, which is guaranteed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as in the Federal Constitution of Malaysia.

Yours sincerely,
