The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in cooperation with the Asociación Latinoamericana de Educación Radiofónica (ALER – Latin American Association for Radio Education), Comunica and the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) organised a Latin American regional workshop on radio, new information and communication technologies (ICT) and rural development.

The workshop considered a series of proposals for promoting the effective use of ICT and radio for rural development so that rural radio stations, networks, specialists in ICT for development and policy decision-makers, start to take into account the effectiveness of combining radio and internet. The proposals, prepared in advance by expert teams and discussed in detail at the meeting, will be directed towards broadcasters and ICT for development practitioners, their national and regional networks, policy makers, UN agencies and donors.

The results will be presented to a biannual ministerial conference in the Latin American region and published and disseminated both on the web and as a book.

APC was responsible for supporting and facilitating the group of participants discussing ICT policy. APC’s Latin American ICT policy newsletter "El Boletin" will shortly include a special edition on the event, highlighting salient presentations and the most significant outcomes.
