During the Tunis World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) — the UN-sponsored conference about information and communication — ITeM will organise an event titled "Framing WSIS in global governance processes: Linkages and follow-up". It will be held on November 17, 2005 from 10:45 to 12:45 at the Room Mehdia (Kram Exhibition Hall).
Panelists will take a closer look at the WSIS’s outcome. Its impact on the global and regional level will be analysed and framed in the context of current information and communication technology (ICT) global governance processes.
Speakers will include Ziad Abdel Samad (Arab NGO network for development, ANND, Lebanon), Anriette Esterhuysen (APC, South Africa, to be confirmed), Susana Finquelievich (LINKS, Argentina), Parminder Jeet Singh (IT for Change, India) and Robin Mansell (London School of Economics, UK).
A book that brings together a series of briefing papers produced as part of ITeM’s "WSIS Papers" project will be launched at this event (See http://wsispapers.choike.org).
"WSIS Papers" and this panel are made possible though the support of the International Development Research Centre of Canada (IDRC).
Further details can be obtained from the Third World Institute (ITeM).
