Katerina Fialova is a coordinator with the APC. She’s coordinating the gender and ICT policy portal called GenderIT.org. This means that she is working on regulation and policy there where gender and technology intersect. What that really means? It is like looking at how cellphones for instance, can best be used to inform women in rural areas.

This means that she is working on regulation and policy there where
gender and technology intersect. What that really means? It is like
looking at how cellphones for instance, can best be used to inform
women in rural areas. It also means advocating for taking back the
technology through the Take Back the Tech campaign, an initiative by
APC’s women’s programme (the APC WNSP) trying to eradicate violence
against women that is done through or with the help of technologies
such as the internet.
Katerina is from Prague, Czech Republic and works for APC from there.
She also performs research and mobilises women in her country to
express themselves online, among other things. She has been using her
skills to organise a workshop on content regulation during the IGF. It
was called “Content regulation and the
duty of states to protect
fundamental rights” and by the way, a huge success in terms of laying
dowan the complexity of regulating the web for the common good.
