This is the second edition of the annual joint ITU and UN Women Award to celebrate outstanding people and entities who champion gender equality in the field of ICTs. In 2014, APC’s Take Back the Tech! campaign was the winner of the award under category 6 “Efforts to reduce threats online and building women’s confidence and security in the use of ICTs”. To date, more than 80 nominations have been received from various countries around the globe, for the three GEM-TECH Awards 2015 categories:
1. Application of Technology for Women’s Empowerment including around ending violence, social, economic, political empowerment and sustainable development.
2. Promotion of Women in the Technology Sector including girls and women as creators, developers, leaders and decision-makers in the technology sector.
3. Development of Gender Responsive ICT Governance, Policy and Access including efforts that, both in intent and in implementation, ensure that enabling and foundational factors for women’s access, connectivity, security, digital literacy/citizenship and skill development.
There is only few days left to nominate and recognize these exceptional performers and role models and celebrate their achievements together during the ceremony of awards announcement and celebrations in New York on December 2015.
