A recent study found that over half of parents use social networking sites to spy on their children. In most cases this included monitoring their status updates, looking at their wall and even creeping their pictures.

Uncool, dad.

Some clever parents even went so far as using a friend’s account so they wouldn’t be detected.

These findings are surprising, given that my mother can barely use a web browser and keeps asking me how to “download” her e-mails.

Parents surprising internet-savvyness aside, this is a fundamental violation of their children’s right to privacy and highlights the need for clearly articulated guidelines for protecting privacy online.

Facebook, which the study focused on, is notorious for having murky privacy settings.

You could always switch to Google+. It’s basically Facebook without your mom.
